WEATHER POLICY

In the case of certain weather conditions (such as lightning, rain, etc.), the field usage is at the discretion of the facility operators and in some cases, may not be used. The fields will immediately close if standing water is visible on the fields, or if the ground is severely saturated from heavy rain. Severe weather such as thunderstorms, snow, and tornadoes, may cause the complex to shut down as well. The facility and our medical staff monitors the weather 24 hours a day and uses the following policy: Fields will be evacuated if lightning is detected within a certain radius of the facility. In the event that fields need to be evacuated, staff and the facility will notify attendees. At this point all players, coaches, spectators and staff will need to clear the fields as quickly as possible. The safest location for people to go is in a hard-topped car with the windows up. The fields will remain closed until the lightning has cleared the predetermined radius. Tourney Machine updates, emails, and staff will indicate when it is safe to return to the fields. The facility and our event staff will evaluate the conditions of the fields and ultimately make the decision to continue, postpone or cancel the day's events.

In the event of adverse weather or unplayable field conditions, the Events Director and Facility Manger reserves the right to

  • Reduce game times in order to catch up with the schedule.

  • Finish game before inclement weather arrives, or to preserve field conditions

  • Cancel games

  • Reschedule games, if possible.

  • Convert tournament to a “Festival” format (reduction of minimum game number) without playoffs or championships to provide the majority of teams the opportunity to play as many games as possible.

Every attempt will be made to update cancellations on the website.  However, the weather conditions can change rapidly and all teams should be prepared to play as soon as weather clears and fields are playable.

If lightning is observed at any location, play will be suspended immediately.  If it is the second half, the game will be considered final and the score at that point will be recorded.  If it is the first half, when play resumes it will be the start of the second half.  Every attempt will be made to begin subsequent games on times; however, some games might be canceled due to schedule restrictions.  If the start of the second half suspended game delays the onset of the subsequent game the following actions will occur:

  • The game suspended will play one 20 minute running half or shorter

  • Subsequent games will begin immediately after proceeding games (teams will warm up on the sideline prior).  These games will consist of abbreviated formats until games are back on schedule.

  • Once games are back on schedule they will revert to normal schedule for the day

We will make every attempt to play every minute of every game but the safety of players and all tournament attendees comes first!

Facility management often has the final say on weather and field condition delays and cancellations.

Vail Lacrosse Tournament has a strict NO REFUND policy for any reason
